Axie Infinity: Number of players greatly decreased

According to game statistics website Activeplayer, the average monthly user count for the NFT game Axie Infinity has dropped to 701,447. So the number of players is as low as it has been since January 2021. In January of this year, the number of Axie Infinity players was still 2.78 million. Then, however, the crypto winter set in. In June alone, the popular NFT game lost 1.2 million players.

Aside from the bear market, game mechanics have also partially contributed to the drop in player numbers. Last year, gamers in developing countries declared that they would earn more with Axie Infinity than working for minimum wage.

Since then, the price of Smooth Love Potion (SLP), Axie Infinity's token, has fallen by over 95 percent. During the same period, the circulation has increased from around 2.4 billion to around 40 billion tokens due to the large rush of new players earning tokens in the game.

In November 2021, 2 million Axies were bought and sold on the Axie Infinity NFT marketplace. The total value was 140,956.7 Ether or $639.5 million. Since then, however, the numbers have fallen sharply. About 311,300 Axies worth 4,143.3 ETH or $5.37 million were sold in the last 30 days.

In the current bear market in NFTs, there have been many other projects besides this one that have seen declines. Trading volume for digital collectibles has fallen 98 percent since January .

The exploit on Axie Infinity's Ronin Bridge, where $600 million was stolen, has also shaken confidence in the GameFi ecosystem. The developers have been working to recover users' money ever since.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
