Rainbow Bridge fends off hacker attack

 


An attack on Rainbow Bridge over the weekend was successfully repelled by a smart contract within 31 seconds. This is reported by Alex Shevchenko, CEO of Aurora Labs, in a blog post .

The bridge was developed by Aurora Labs to connect Ethereum and the NEAR blockchain. The NEAR Protocol (NEAR) is a community-driven cloud computing platform for decentralized apps (dApps) and smart contract solutions.

According to Shevchenko, the attacker made a security deposit of five ethers on Saturday morning. He hoped it would be complicated to respond to the attack early on Saturday morning.

The CEO further describes: “However, no human response was required. Automated watch dogs challenged the malicious transaction, resulting in the attacker losing their security deposit."

After just 31 seconds, i.e. “four Ethereum blocks”, the fraud attempt was uncovered. The five ethers deposited were withdrawn from the attacker. Current equivalent: about 8,000 US dollars.
