On behalf of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee (CC), the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has blocked 12,000 crypto-related social media accounts this year alone. This emerges from a communication from the authority.
According to the CAC, the accounts are said to have advertised false promises of returns. In addition, some of them are also involved in illegal activities.
In the press release, the cyberspace administration continues to urge social media platforms to crack down on content promoting cryptocurrency speculation.
In addition, more "efforts in self-examination and self-correction of information content and accounts" are required by the operators of the platforms.
The social networks Weibo and Baidu have already complied with this request and blocked the accounts. They also deleted 51,000 posts containing phrases like “Easily make money by investing in Bitcoin”.
The CAC wants to take further action and is talking about closing other websites that operate crypto marketing.
