Cryptocom can secure registration in Cyprus

The crypto exchange. Crypto.com continues to expand rapidly and is now the next trading platform to receive an official license in Cyprus.

Crypto.com received approval from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) yesterday, Friday, the company confirmed to Cointelegraph on Friday.

With the approval, Crypto.com will be able to offer a range of financial products and services in the future, as long as they comply with local regulatory requirements. Obtaining the license marks the next milestone in the global expansion of the crypto company, which recently secured similar approvals in Italy, Greece and Singapore.

As founder and CEO Kris Marszalek explains, his company is currently specifically targeting Europe as an area for expansion. He also sees this as "proof of our efforts in terms of compliance and cooperation with the regulatory authorities".

Crypto.com is not the only crypto exchange that has successfully received a license in Cyprus in the last few months. Among other things, the major competitor FTX was granted such a permit as part of its expansion into Europe in March 2022. Coinbase is also increasingly looking to expand its sphere of activity to Europe.

So, although more and more crypto companies are settling in the island nation, it should be noted that the government of Cyprus has actually not created a particularly clear legal framework for cryptocurrencies so far.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
