After problems at the Champions League final: Greater acceptance of NFT tickets in France possible

 


The chaos leading up to the UEFA Champions League final could see NFTs gaining traction in ticketing for sporting events in France. The country has already said it intends to use NFT tickets during the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the Paris 2024 Olympics. 


Lots of counterfeit tickets were used at the Champions League final, causing chaos. The police had to use tear gas to restore order. Meanwhile, the match between Liverpool FC and Real Madrid has been postponed. The French government's Olympic Envoy, Michel Cadot, presented a report to the French Prime Minister's Office last week recommending measures to prevent unrest at sporting events in the future. One of these measures is the use of NTF tickets.


The introduction of the new ticketing system ahead of the rugby event and the Olympic Games "would make it possible to prepare the planned systems and introduce the working methods and management reflexes with multiple actors to deal with difficulties", Cadot said in the report .


The French system envisages issuing non-transferable, digital-only tickets using blockchain technology and QR codes. Tickets would be distributed via SMS shortly before the event and activated in a security zone around the venue.


NFT ticketing increases event security and profits for their sponsors by preventing counterfeit tickets and scalping. Scalping means that someone buys the ticket and resells it on a secondary market at a far higher price. Other functions, such as access to the VIP area or receiving souvenirs, can also be programmed into NFT tickets. NFTs can therefore not only be used as tickets. NFT collectibles have been a common marketing strategy for many teams since 2020 and are growing in popularity. They can even be programmed to involve fans in voting and receive physical collectibles.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack.
