Crypto scammers on Tinder know how to pull the right strings to gain access to your crypto wallet. They use emotional manipulation and charming compliments to target singles on the famous dating app and elicit sensitive dates.
Crypto Scammers on Tinder
Crypto scammers are nothing new on social media. This time the scammers are trying to emotionally manipulate you via Tinder. Social media is a hotbed for hackers, and the latest scam is on Tinder. Basically, the thieves convince the respective victim to download a fake phishing crypto app that allows them to gain access to their wallets.
Bulgaria-based cyber forensic scientists refer to these modern day crypto scammers as “CryptoRoms”. The scammers use charm and seduction to manipulate their victims into transferring their tokens to strange third-party applications.
Below are the different ways Tinder crypto scammers operate:
Tinder Verification: The scammers convince their victims to verify their profiles on a specific app. The scammers then send this link that looks like a Tinder verification. However, once you click the link, you will be redirected to a third party website where you will be asked to enter personal information such as your name, email address, date of birth and credit card number. Once you enter this vital information, they attempt to bypass your crypto wallets.
Catfishing: Many scammers create fake Tinder profiles mostly as women (even though they are actually men). They lure their victims by creating an emotional bond, even offering to provide them with nude photos or videos in exchange for their crypto wallet or data.

Jenny the scammer is from Malaysia and the victim thought it was a serious romantic relationship and that she really love him. Turns out Jenny was just after his crypto funds.
Timothy Benson of Bitcoin Recovery Company says it's apparent how Tinder crypto scammers use emotional, manipulative tactics to gain access to their victims' personal and financial information, such as private keys to their crypto wallets.
How to avoid Tinder scams
Never give out personal or financial information, even if you are "in love".
Research the profiles before communicating with them or trusting them with any information.
End the conversation as soon as the person asks for personal or financial information.
Write down the scammer's information
Report the scammer to Tinder immediately
There are agencies that specialize in stolen cryptocurrencies, but there is no guarantee that you will get all the funds back. Therefore, it's best to be proactive and never share sensitive information just because you met the person online.
