Polygon Network: Network failure after upgrade

Layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution Polygon hasn’t produced a new block for 11 hours. The developers say a technical upgrade of the network was the reason for this.

At 16:20 UTC on Thursday , the developers of the Polygon network informed users on their forums that from around 17:50 UTC there will likely be an outage due to maintenance work on one of the three layers of the network. A recent upgrade reportedly broke the network's consensus mechanism.

"We suspect that there was a bug in the upgrade that compromised the consensus and resulted in different Heimdall validators working on different versions of the chain. As a result, a 2/3 consensus could not be achieved."

As announced, the outage began at approximately 17:54 UTC.

The Polygon team reported at approximately 1:30 UTC that they are still working on fixing the issue and that a hotfix has been deployed to make block crafting possible again. At the time of writing, the network was fully online again.

The team also consistently assured users that their money and data were safe on the chain.

Network outage at Polygon lasted 11 hours.

Polygon users understood this because the outage was announced in advance. But after six hours, there were already first signs of impatience in the community. Many users were concerned about the long downtime.

Other people said their job or crypto business would suffer from the outage. Twitter user @Miklos211 commented :

"I can literally work. Could you please tell us when we can expect the network to be working again?"

The polygon network consists of three layers. Each of them has a specific task. Smart contracts run on the Ethereum layer and the Bor layer helps create blocks. The problem lay in the Heimdall layer.

Heimdall is a set of Proof-of-Stake (PoS) nodes that help the network reach consensus. This is how Polygon was unable to reach a network consensus.

The last major bug on Polygon, which threatened $24 billion in user funds , was fixed without issue in late 2021.

In this regard, Polygon recently partnered with music NFT marketplace TokenTraxx to support the marketplace in the Polygon ecosystem. Musicians can use TokenTraxx to tokenize their works and sell them as NFTs.

The 5 largest platforms for non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles

Since the beginning of 2021, non-fungible tokens (NFT) have had no holding back and the sector is setting new records almost every day.  More and more artists, stars and brands are realizing the potential - NFT are well on their way to catapulting the crypto space into the mainstream.  But which collectibles are currently the most popular? What are NFT? NFT are unique tokens that cannot be exchanged one-for-one for an equivalent token.  Any asset that is tokenizable can be an NFT.  This includes, for example, (digital) works of art, trading cards, game items and crypto domains.  Theoretically, however, real estate or securities can also be mapped as NFT. NFTs can be used to transparently map ownership structures on a public blockchain.  This allows them to store value just like real objects, even if additional copies are easy to make.  For example, the original picture of the Mona Lisa is significantly more valuable than a photo, as everyone kno...

CARDALONIA: THE CARDANO METAVERSE OPENS THE GATES!

Have you ever been to Cardalonia? With these words, the Cardano Metaverse called Cardalonia starts the gates. In this 3D world, developers and users can interact with each other. First of all, users have to create an individual character with which they can move online. After that you can enter one of the worlds built by developers with this character. You can also purchase your own land in the Cardano Metaverse via the marketplaces in Cardalonia . This is secured by Cardano's blockchain technology and therefore offers a relatively secure transfer of ownership. Since these are only digital plots of land, it is not yet entirely clear when the plots of land are purchased whether they can also be sold again in the future. A possible profit cannot be estimated at the moment. In Cardalonia, the cryptocurrency Lonia is used. The maximum amount of tokens in circulation is 100,000,000. The team consists of Alice Sand (Co-Founder), Vasil Air (CTO) and Dustan Water (Fullstack Developer). T...
