This celebrity accepts bitcoin for his $27 million Houston mansion

 


Tony Buzbee, the prominent attorney and former Houston mayoral candidate, has put his River Oaks home up for sale and is accepting bitcoin as payment.


The Houston trial attorney and one-time mayoral candidate wants to part with his two-acre mansion in upscale River Oaks and is willing to accept alternative currencies as payment for the $27.5 million list price, according to real estate agent Douglas Elliman.


At current exchange rates, Buzbee's River Oaks mansion would cost around 625 bitcoin, versus the 407 bitcoin it would have cost when the currency peaked in November. So, it appears that Buzbee is betting his long-term prospects for a major rally in the crypto space. He wouldn't be the first notable figure in recent memory to put at least some of his finances into the realm of legacy currencies and crypto speculation.


Priced at $27.5 million, it's one of the city's most expensive homes. Located in the upscale River Oaks neighborhood in the Country Culb Estates enclave, it features a whopping 12,000 square feet of living space with five bedrooms each with en-suite bathrooms, five wood-burning fireplaces, an exercise room, a movie theater, a game room, a library, and a spacious underground wine cellar and a six car garage.


Having cryptocurrency as an accepted form of payment for one of Houston's most expensive homes poses an intriguing dilemma for Buzbee, especially given the recent swings in the value of bitcoin. However, this is not the first instance of Bitcoin being used to buy and sell a property.


Meanwhile, many digital assets, including Bitcoin, have shown signs of recovery after a tumultuous January. All eyes are currently on BTC as it broke the key $45,000 resistance level for the first time in over a month after gaining 5.2% over the past day
