Innovation with a sense of proportion - Nintendo wants to thoroughly examine the "added value" of NFTs

 

The influential video game group is open to the innovations surrounding NFTs, metaverse and blockchain, but first wants to thoroughly examine an integration.

After the video game giant Nintendo presented its latest quarterly results a few days ago , the company expressed "interest" in the Metaverse during a question and answer session and at the same time sees great "potential" in the integration of blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFT) into the video game world . So far, however, there are no concrete plans and Nintendo generally wants to proceed cautiously in this regard.

David Gibson, senior analyst at MST Financial, elicited the corresponding statements from the gaming group when it asked in a tweet for an assessment of the Metaverse and NFTs.


For Nintendo, the central question is "what added value" can be offered to players and fans of the brand with the implementation of these technologies. As long as this is unclear, there will be no step towards the Metaverse. The Japanese video game giant is considered traditional and conservative in the industry, but has always relied on innovations in the past that have permanently changed the gaming world. Since more and more game manufacturers are now daring to use blockchain gaming and Metaverse, it will of course be observed with interest how the forge of successful titles such as Zelda, Pokemon and Super Mario behaves towards the innovative technologies.

For example, publisher Ubisoft recently developed an NFT platform called Ubisoft Quartz , while Japanese video game company Konami, the makers of Castlevania, has launched its own NFT collection . The large software manufacturer Microsoft recently bought up Activision Blizzard for a whopping 69 billion US dollars and at the same time promised that the Xbox should be integrated into the Metaverse.

However, Quartz and Digits have both faced Ubisoft's noticeable community backlash, leading Nicolas Pouard, one of Ubisoft's managing directors of innovation , to suggest that players may not yet fully understand the benefits NFTs could bring.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
