Well-intentioned warning from OpenSea causes trouble for NFT investors



 NFT investors who followed a warning from OpenSea have more trouble than before because of a supposed cancellation of the sale.


An e-mail from the market-leading NFT trading platform OpenSea, which was intended as a well-intentioned warning, later turns out to be a shot in the oven, which not only caused frustration but also loss for crypto users.


In the relevant email, OpenSea had warned that due to the declining price of Ethereum ( ETH ), the users of the platforms should cancel all old inactive sales as a precaution, so that they do not have to be fulfilled and a loss results.


However, the crypto community quickly noted on Twitter that the supposed warning actually had the opposite effect, because the instructed aborts suddenly activated inactive sales again. Accordingly, Twitter user @dingalingts warns that all concerned "FIRST transfer their NFTs to another address before the sale is cancelled." In the next step, the NFTs could then be sent back to the old wallet address.


For some users, however, this notice came too late, such as @swolfchan.eth, who states that he lost almost 15 ETH due to OpenSea's instructions. For example, one of his NFTs from the Mutant Ape Yacht Club series was reactivated by the supposed demolition for a price of 6 ETH, whereupon a buyer whose bid was still in the ETH mempool got the unexpected bid.


However, the sympathy of the crypto community is limited, as the user @roundcatcrypto says : "This is your fault. You didn't abort properly. Now don't blame the company.”



Alex Attalah, one of the co-founders of OpenSea, also tweeted @swolfchan.eth and confirmed that "the team is already working on this issue and is looking for a fix". The crypto user then asked for damages directly, but so far without success.
