New York restaurant opens exclusively for NFT owners

 


Hospitality company VCR Group, founded by entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, has now announced that it has started selling its tokens for New York City's new private dining club, the Flyfish Club. Seafood restaurant fans must purchase membership via blockchain. This membership is obtained with the purchase of an NFT.


VCR Group answers the question "Why NFTs?" on the Flyfish Club website:


"Through NFTs, the FFC can build a loyal membership to which we can offer special experiences. NFTs create a new, modern financial model, which allows the FFC to offer an extraordinary and sustainable product for the years to come." 

There are two types of memberships listed on the official website. With regular access, members can access the main dining room, outdoor area and cocktail lounge as well as special events for 2.5 Ether ( ETH ). At the time of writing, this total equates to approximately $8,474. The second and more expensive entry, called Flyfish Omakase, gives members all of the above plus access to a 14-seat Omakase room. This access is available now for 4.25 ETH or $14,400.


According to the website, Flyfish Membership NFT holders can rent their tokens to non-token holders on a monthly basis or resell them. There are also no annual fees. And although you pay for membership in cryptocurrencies, you can pay for food and drinks on site in US dollars.


The Flyfish Club is the second such concept from the VCR Group. The company previously opened Japanese omakase restaurant Ito, which is also located in New York City but is not members-only. The Flyfish Club is scheduled to open in early 2023.



The Flyfish Club claims to be the first members-only NFT restaurant. However, it is not the first culinary concept to integrate crypto into its business model. A restaurant called Crypto Street recently opened in Clearwater, Florida, and features crypto- themed artwork on the walls and menus. The restaurant also accepts crypto payments.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack.
