The US giant Zebra Technologies has announced on their development portal that they have the new Zebra-Iota Edge SDK product in development and are already quite advanced. In today's article I would like to go into more detail about what information has been published and what other news there is from IOTA and the crypto exchanges.
It was announced that the Zebra-Iota Edge SDK product will now be used. Put simply, this product is a collection of programming tools (e.g. for mapping identities) that are intended to support software developers in being able to easily and securely build their desired applications on it. Today, identities are always tied to certain systems and are not transferrable. Some of them are stored in clouds and thus ensure a high degree of inflexibility in retail and supply chains and thus numerous problems in communication and processing.
IOTA's building block, the Identity Framework with the Tangle, is now to be used there to smoothly transfer digital identities between different "exhibitors" and "auditors" with a view to reducing costs and saving time. The blog entry goes on to say:
The IOTA Identity Framework handles all interactions with the IOTA Tangle in which the DID documents are published and anchored. In the context of verifiable credentials, the Tangle acts as a registry for verifiable data . The IOTA Tangle is well suited as it offers guarantees of data integrity and immutability and thus trust between the parties involved, but without incurring any fees.
The following applications could be mapped and facilitated as examples:
Personal information management (individuals, for example when detecting Corona in a restaurant)
Trade Certificates (Health or Warranty Certificates, Issued by Organizations)
Decentralized device identity (printer, scanner, reader, all interactions can thus be recorded and proven)
Access data for supply chains (truck driver can transport goods around the world with just one document)
If you would like to know more about these options, there will be a freely accessible webinar in English on February 16 at 5:00 p.m.
Conclusion of the cooperation
The two companies have been working closely together on the further development of today's business processes for some time. With this product, a completely new, simpler, and decentralized supply chain application opens up for our world with the goal of secure and trustworthy data exchange between different places. And the development seems to be quite far advanced. The following was also announced with regard to the next steps:
With the feedback from the community, the IOTA Foundation and Zebra Technologies intend to continue working on improving and fine-tuning the SDK. In fact, a new enabler, EPCIS Enabler , will be released in Q2 2022. It will have to do with the ability to record GS1 EPCIS 2.0 events directly from Zebra devices. These events can be stored in distributed data stores and anchored immutably in the IOTA Distributed Ledger.
