Dapper Labs becomes the first NFT company to register for lobbying in US politics

 


With Dapper Labs, an NFT company could for the first time have direct influence on the design of legislative initiatives and regulatory projects.


According to a government disclosure on January 3, Dapper Labs is now the first NFT company to officially lobby American politics. Thus, the company joins a series of crypto companies that are already in the US Parliament for a conducive regulatory advertised have.


Dapper Labs, based in Vancouver, Canada, offers a wide range of products and services based on Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) . These include the online game CryptoKitties , with which the company pioneered the industry, and the very successful NFT marketplace NBA Top Shot , which was created in cooperation with the major American professional basketball league NBA. The Martial Arts League UFC is already a partnership with the company entered to start in the near future a similar service.


According to the disclosure documents, Dapper Labs has hired the lobby company Crossroads Strategy so that it has a positive impact on "legislative initiatives and regulatory projects on NFTs, blockchain and financial services" for the company. In addition, Dapper Labs won Alison Kutler as the new head of government work in November 2021. Kutler is the former head of the Office for Consumer Protection and Public Relations, and she was also an advisor to the chairman of the FCC communications regulator from June 2015 to April 2017.


Kutler was then also registered as an official lobbyist for Dapper Labs on January 4, 2022.


It is unclear what specific goals the NFT company is pursuing with its lobbying work. After all, spokeswoman Rachel Rogers states that it is intended to promote “public knowledge and adoption in the mainstream”.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
