Airbnb boss makes Twitter survey: users want crypto payments

 


The AirBnB boss indicated that the crypto payment option won't be limited to just one or two digital currencies.


Airbnb boss Brian Chesky made a survey on Twitter on Monday in which he asked his 400,000 followers what they would like from the rental platform in 2022.


Chesky revealed today that the majority of respondents want to pay with Bitcoin ( BTC ) or other popular digital currencies when renting a house or apartment on Airbnb. Clear price information, a visitor loyalty program, current cleaning fees and improved customer service were also requested.


Chesky also added that he saw a number of token ideas. That could mean Airbnb won't limit its crypto payment choices to just one or two digital assets. Airbnb currently accepts Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal as payment methods. The CEO also stated that the platform has processed $ 336 billion in transactions since 2013.


Chesky has praised the potential of new technologies on several occasions. In September , he told Fox Business the company had received many requests for crypto payments:


"We get a lot of inquiries. I've had this for years, but I don't have anything to say about it today."

In an interview with The Verge's Nilay Patel in November, he was asked how he sees the future of crypto and the metaverse:


"We'll definitely take a look at it. Absolutely. Like the revolution in travel, a revolution is taking place in the crypto economy. Airbnb and cryptocurrencies both have an interesting relationship with trust."


He went on to explain that Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong was a former Airbnb employee. Currently, competition from decentralized blockchain alternatives such as Dtravel from Travala.com , which offers vacation rentals , is also increasing .

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack.
