Payment company Block: BTC as a Christmas present via Cash App



The digital payment company Block, formerly Square, has announced that users of the Cash app can give away cryptocurrencies and shares to friends and relatives during the Christmas season.


In a tweet on Tuesday , Cash App said its roughly 40 million monthly active users can give away Bitcoin ( BTC ) or shares worth $ 1 or more, just as they always did with cash. The payment company is following the example of other companies such as PayPal and Coinbase.


Cointelegraph reported Dec. 7 that a study by the lending company BlockFi showed that many Americans would be willing to accept cryptocurrencies such as BTC, Ether ( ETH ) and Dogecoin ( DOGE ) as Christmas gifts. However, the same survey also shows that the majority of respondents do not know how to transfer crypto. Many critics said that since 2009, many coins have been lost because BTC was sent to newbies.



Many projects accept donations in cryptocurrency over the holidays to help those in need. Fintech provider Unbanked announced earlier this month that it would accept crypto donations for Toys for Tots. This is a US Navy program that collects toys that are then given to children in need. In addition, platforms like Giving Block enable nonprofits and charities to accept donations in cryptocurrencies.
