Christmas and NFTs: "Open your MetaMask wallets!"

Christmas NFTs? Imagine it's Christmas and little James, Paula, Sandra and Alex are running down the stairs to see what's under the Christmas tree. But they can't find any boxes or wrapping paper, no, instead Santa calls out: “Open your MetaMask wallets, children!”

The thought of giving away digital images or NFTs may have sounded ridiculous a few years ago. However, if you have a crypto enthusiast in the family (or are a crypto enthusiast yourself), you may have already received (or given away) some fancy JPEGS. This year, non-fungible tokens or NFTs are an ideal Christmas present.

Christmas and NFTs

What is actually special about NFTs? It all started in March 2021 when the market appeared to be completely out of whack overnight. Back then, the world had never heard of NFTs . Shortly thereafter, tokenized copies of Grimes and Beeple were sold for several million . The NFT market is now worth more than $ 27 billion .

But even if NFTs are becoming more and more popular, many people find it difficult to get an idea of what they are : what are NFTs , how do they work and what do they actually do? Many see no practical use in NFTs. And if you are a Web3 expert, then you have probably already talked to many friends and relatives about it. You may be asking, “ What is the difference between owning an NFT and simply downloading an image? Can't everyone do this for free? "

But don't worry. After the conversation is over, you may want to own NFTs yourself - ones that can be viewed using augmented reality.

Here are a few tips how you could go about it. First, be empathetic. Let them know that you understand that scarce ownership of an ubiquitous resource is initially an uncommon concept for many people. You will be understanding. Then try talking about NFTs in video games. Owning virtual goods seems to make more sense in the context of virtual spaces, even for the greatest NFT skeptics.

Buying tokenized weapons for video game characters isn't that far-fetched, is it? And from there, it might not be so absurd to imagine why people would invest in virtual land (or hold virtual horse races. Or buy clothes for their avatars to wear in cyberspace. Sounds realistic.).

And now comes the real highlight. You can tell them that designers have already built their own tokenized sneaker empire . And whether they like it or not, they could at some point live in a digital world in which NFTs play an increasingly important role - the metaverse.

Christmas: NFTs, the Metaverse, and the Universe

When you hear the word metaverse , you might think of a virtual world that exists completely separate from our own. Others claimed that the metaverse is not a specific physical or virtual location. But actually it's just one area in which part of life happens. As more and more people work, play, socialize and fall in love online, we are already living - in every respect - in the metaverse.

However, even for someone who works remotely, spends all of their free time playing online, and has a long-distance relationship, NFTs do not seem to have much practical use. They are sure to be an interesting investment; a way to support artists - why not? But ultimately, NFTs “exist”only in niche areas of the internet. Usually these are their own marketplaces and maybe a few online games or galleries.

At this point the conversation could get difficult. NFT technology is new and in many ways not yet mature. But here's the point: NFTs aren't just a novelty. Non-fungible token technology has revolutionized the way people create, own, and share products on Web 3.0 . NFTs are the key to building and maintaining autonomous values in the digital world. They are the building blocks of the virtual economy. They are essential for connecting the real world with the virtual world.

So now is the time to look at the future of NFTs . In order to bridge the transition between what is “real” and what is not real, greater flexibility is required. And what is the solution to the problem? Augmented Reality (AR).

Like Augmented Reality NFTs that connect Metaverse and Reality

At the moment, the possibilities of owning a tokenized avatar or artwork are limited. They can usually only be viewed or viewed in 2D, and only on the platform on which they are hosted. Some NFT creators are trying to solve this problem by gifting buyers with physical items - prints, sculptures, or even bits of hair

However, this creates the impression that NFTs exist in some distant, abstract dimension of the universe and that only completely separate physical representations give real meaning to their possession. With AR, on the other hand, both worlds can be combined. The experiences one can have with owning NFTs go beyond the boundaries of the digital world into the physical world with AR. Likewise, the experience of owning physical objects can pass into the metaverse. Imagine hanging a virtual NFT on a physical wall in your home (or in another room). Wearing real NFT clothing is also conceivablethat has been virtually upgraded with AR tools. Or how about physical newspapers, magazine covers, paintings and all kinds of still images connected to a token that gives the rights to activate the AR function?

Digital gifts - just try them out

NFTs can help us determine how the experience of our physical world and possessions manifests itself in the metaverse, and vice versa. This makes the experience of what we own and create - and who we are - more holistic and holistic. AR is the way forward for the future of NFTs because it brings our online experience together with our real selves. And it won't just be practical. It'll be cool too.

So tell your family that NFTs will play an important role in both online and offline life in the future. And maybe - just maybe - they'll think the idea of owning digital images isn't that crazy after all.

From offchain to offchain: Statechains meets Lightning

Without a doubt, the most significant off-chain Bitcoin solution is the Lightning network. But in its wake, the statechain has emerged as an intriguing replacement. There is currently a proposal to link the two offchain networks. From an ocean, for example, you can see sunbeams glistening in the water, waves rippling, and possibly a jellyfish drifting toward the light. But you only see a small portion of it. The distance from the sea's surface to its bottom is hundreds of meters. It has dozens of different fish species swimming in it, crabs and starfish crawling on the bottom, shells clinging to rocks, and sea plants climbing up. A completely new world starts where your gaze diverges. You can picture a blockchain like Bitcoin, just like the sea. What you see on the outside is only a small portion of what is actually there; the set of UTXOs (coins) and transaction history that full nodes store are just the beginning of a much larger world. It's the plan, at least. With Bitcoin...

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Although the websites affected by the scam attempt have reacted in the last few hours and deactivated the advertising pop-up, it is still recommended not to connect your MetaMask wallet to ne...

Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack. These numbers are only the lowest estimate, however, as they are based on the lowest price.  At the time of writing, it was still unclear how the hackers gained access to BAYC's official Instagram account. Social media users have pointed out the importance of two-fact...
