Ubisoft's first foray into the NFT space earned negative responses from gamers. Now the gaming giant wants to switch to dynamic NFTs with Aleph.im.
Earlier this year, the games giant Ubisoft joined the Aleph.im network as a core node operators after the block chain-based storage and computing startup at Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Lab participated had. On Tuesday, Aleph.im announced their intention to offer a decentralized storage solution for Ubisoft Quartz in order to integrate non-fungible tokens (NFT) into Ubisoft's top games.
On Quartz, players can purchase dynamic NFTs called "Digits" which are used in Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint game. You can use Digits in the game and also sell them to others on the Rarible and Objkt platforms. The metadata and the history of the object are publicly accessible.
With Aleph.im's technology, players can see the names and milestones of previous owners of the item, as well as descriptions and videos about it. One of the advantages of the Aleph.im system is that the NFT metadata is stored on a completely decentralized storage network with over 70 nodes, so that all NFT owners can be tracked on the Tezos blockchain.
Ubisoft and Aleph.im say they are working together to re-engineer the traditionally static NFTs, thereby creating dynamic NFTs with metadata. These develop as they are transferred from player to player.
Didier Genevois, Ubisoft's technical director for blockchain, said players need to actually own their digit to take advantage of the technology's potential. "Aleph.im played a key role in developing this experiment. It allowed us to decentralize the storage of video assets and metadata from digits," he said.
Cointelegraph already reported on the negative reactions to Ubisoft's NFT push. The "Ghost Reckon" community was anything but enthusiastic about the "rip-off". Ubisoft is responding by switching to dynamic NFTs, which should be achieved with the help of Aleph.im, in order to allay the concerns of the players.
