A question of “perspective” - first NFT from “Darknet gangster” Ross Ulbricht auctioned

The FreeRossDAO, which wants to get Ulbricht released, has bought the first NFT of the ten-part collection for a considerable sum.

Ross Ulbricht, the alleged founder of the infamous darknet platform Silk Road, has the first Non-Fungible Token (NFT) of his " Genesis Collection " for a value of 1,446 ethers ( ETH ) or 6.2 million US dollars auctioned.

The auction in question at Art Basel Miami was handled by SuperRare. The highest bid was submitted by FreeRossDAO, a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) that aims to liberate Ulbricht. As the organization states , it also wants to promote "prison reform" and "share the art of Ross with the rest of the world".

The first NFT sold under the title “Perspective” (see above) belongs to a ten-part collection of works of art that Ulbricht designed in the course of his life. This includes, for example, an animated video by the artist Levitate, which Ulbricht set to music with a story about his previous prison time.

All proceeds from the sales of the “Genesis Collection” go in turn to the Art4Giving fund, which was also founded by FreeRossDAO and aims to provide legal aid for wrongly imprisoned people.

The FreeRossDAO wants to split the purchased NFT into several governance tokens (ROSS), which will be issued to donors in return. ROSS owners receive voting rights via their tokens, with which they can decide on the further course of action of the DAO.

The NFT sale by Hess is one of the largest in the last seven days, as the data from NonFungible show.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
