SpaceX scam Livestream with fake crypto giveaway

Crypto scam with SpaceX logo: Fraudsters: On Monday morning, a probably fake livestream with a giveaway started. With the promise that their stake would double, viewers are asked to send Bitcoin or Ether to a wallet. There have been many similar actions before that turned out to be fraudulent.

Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey, and Cathie Wood chat in a livestream about the advantages and the future of Bitcoin. QR codes frame the speakers: Here you can find the supposed giveaway wallet. The viewers are asked to send Bitcoin or Ether to this wallet in order to get about twice as much Bitcoin or Ether back. A supposed giveaway that is likely to be a scam.

As can be read on the website for the live stream, the giveaway is intended to accelerate the mass distribution of cryptocurrencies. That is the goal of Elon Musk and SpaceX.

The live stream with around 17,000 viewers is expected to run until around 1 p.m. on a YouTube channel called “SpaceX 2021”. Not to be confused with the space company's official “SpaceX” channel.

There are often similar cases of fraud involving SpaceX founder Elon Musk. In March, a investor lost 500,000 $ in Bitcoin to the creators of a fake Musk account on Twitter.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website.
