Welcome To Miami! The bitcoin capital of the world

Miami is becoming the bitcoin capital of the world. This is not least due to its bullish mayor.

For the tech offices from Silicon Valley, Miami has been a place of longing for some time. More and more highly qualified workers from the epicenter of the technical world are moving to other hubs within the USA. Quite a few of them go to Miami. At least since Mayor Francis Suarez responded to a tweet from Founders Fund board member Delian Asparouhov, in which he brought Miami into play as the new Silicon Valley, with the words "how can we help?" answered, it is clear: Miami wants to develop into a tech hub. Bitcoin has recently also played a major role.

For example, podcasters and crypto influencer Pomp reached thousands with a tweet about Miami in which he indirectly asked Mayor Suarez to convert one percent of the city's cash reserves into BTC. For such a suggestion he was “definitely open”, the mayor of the capital of Florida replied by return mail.

Bitcoin mining against climate change

In the latest edition of the Unconfirmed Podcast, ex-Forbes journalist Laura Shin devoted herself entirely to the subject of Bitcoin in Miami. Mayor Francis Suarez was a guest, three guesses. And he made no secret of his intentions to turn the sunny metropolis into the Bitcoin capital of the south. Among other things, Miami would like to welcome miners with open arms:

As the City of Miami, we would love to become a mining hub because we believe that 90 percent of mining should not take place outside of the United States. We can also promote green mining with clean energy in this way. Francis Suarez

Suarez seems to have understood the international race for hash power and wants to position his city in such a way that it gets a piece of the pie and can make mining greener overall. According to Suarez, the latter is conceivable with solar energy - and there is plenty of that in Florida.

The City Council is already actively considering a possible BTC investment. “We want to become one of the most crypto-friendly cities in the country [...]. And yes, we are considering diversifying part of our investment portfolio with Bitcoin, ”the mayor told Fox Business in JanuaryHis plan to pay civil servants in BTC in the future proves that these are more than just empty wordsA corresponding bill has already been passed by the city council. When this can be implemented is currently unclear.

Bitcoin 2021 will take place in Miami

It is also no coincidence that the largest Bitcoin-only conference in the world, Bitcoin 2021, will take place in Miami this year. If the pandemic situation allows, the city expects up to 1,000 Bitcoin disciples on the weekend of June 4th and 5th. Among the speakers are none other than Michael Saylor, Jack Dorsey, and also skateboard legend Tony Hawk, who claims to have been a Hodler for some time.

And as if the signals from Suarez, who is a full-time lawyer, weren't enough, he recently added the notorious laser eyes to his Twitter profile picture, which signal that he is part of the BTC community. If you listen to the mayor long enough, you can forget that this is an elected government official and not a bitcoin maximalist cyberpunk.

Cancellation for FUD

Miami's demeanor on the big stage of the crypto world is the best example of why FUD calls for a Bitcoin ban (at least in democratic countries) are unfounded. Cities like Miami simply benefit from the opposite behavior. Because when strict anti-BTC laws are passed elsewhere, it plays into the cards for crypto-friendly cities like Miami. In other words: a “yes” to Bitcoin is simply more worthwhile than a “no”. After all, Suarez and his colleagues are luring both capital and brainpower to the city - and thus washing additional income into the coffers.

Plus, the mayor of the largest city in the Sunshine State understood what it means to be the first. As demonstrated by the example of MicroStrategy, it doesn't take long for others to follow the brave examples of the avant-garde. And so the crypto community can expect some bullish news from Florida in the future.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Although the websites affected by the scam attempt have reacted in the last few hours and deactivated the advertising pop-up, it is still recommended not to connect your MetaMask wallet to ne

From offchain to offchain: Statechains meets Lightning

Without a doubt, the most significant off-chain Bitcoin solution is the Lightning network. But in its wake, the statechain has emerged as an intriguing replacement. There is currently a proposal to link the two offchain networks. From an ocean, for example, you can see sunbeams glistening in the water, waves rippling, and possibly a jellyfish drifting toward the light. But you only see a small portion of it. The distance from the sea's surface to its bottom is hundreds of meters. It has dozens of different fish species swimming in it, crabs and starfish crawling on the bottom, shells clinging to rocks, and sea plants climbing up. A completely new world starts where your gaze diverges. You can picture a blockchain like Bitcoin, just like the sea. What you see on the outside is only a small portion of what is actually there; the set of UTXOs (coins) and transaction history that full nodes store are just the beginning of a much larger world. It's the plan, at least. With Bitcoin

Seth Green falls victim to phishing - hackers steal NFTs

Seth Green spoke up via Twitter yesterday afternoon. The actor is known to be involved in Web3 and NFTs. Criminals seem to have taken advantage of this, because according to Green, he was the victim of phishing. The artificial word is a composition of the English words "password harvesting" and "fishing". Exactly how the hackers managed to get hold of Green's account and fish the access data is still unknown. Typical methods to obtain victims' data are bogus emails and fake websites.   The loot includes 4 NFTs including Bored Ape number 8398 which is currently estimated to be worth at least $200,000. Theft is not an isolated case The fact that holders of high-priced NFTs are being targeted by phishing is not new. While many attacks target the masses, perpetrators will target their opera if they can be sure the loot is of high value. Green reaped statements of solidarity on social media and help from other victims on how to report the case. In the meantime,
