Theta has - once again, it must be said - achieved a new all-time high. If you look at the latest news from the THETA front, the ongoing price rally is no coincidence.
The Theta Network has been panting from one all-time high to the next for months . At the time of going to press, Theta is trading at 14.50 US dollars (USD), setting a new price record. The latest price jump has now promoted THETA into the top 10 cryptocurrencies with the highest market capitalization. The market capitalization of the total of 1,000,000,000 tokens is now over 14 billion USD. The streaming network is showing itself to be immune to the sideways trend that recently hit the rest of the crypto market. The rally is not by chance, however, but is underpinned by bullish news.
Why is theta increasing?
On March 23, it was announced that four institutional investors had joined the Theta network to jointly operate an Enterprise Validator Node. The investment funds Sierra Ventures, Heuristic Capital, VR Fund and GFR Fund have put a total of 100 million US dollars into THETA. This comes from a blog post by Theta Labs, the company behind the decentralized video streaming protocol. Sierra Labs is a repeat offender:
"We were one of the first funds to see the potential of theta and invested in the company's seed round in 2016. The massive strides that Mitch and the entire team have made since then confirm our trust in Theta Network and we continue to support their groundbreaking blockchain technology by participating as enterprise validators. We look forward to 100x growth as Theta transforms the media and entertainment industry,"
says Ben Yu, Managing Partner at Sierra Ventures, as quoted .
The network currently has a total of 14 Enterprise Validator Nodes. The operators include Google, Samsung and Binance , among others . At the beginning of March, Theta Labs still checked 7 validator nodes - then, with Sony Europe, another top-class member joined the network and established parity between internal and external validators. The subsequent price rally was spurred on by further positive news in mid-March. Theta Labs has received a second US patent for its decentralized streaming protocol.
With the latest investment by Sierra Ventures and Co., external validators have the upper hand for the first time. An important step for the desired decentralization of the network.
Theta: Course and network are growing rapidly
The Enterprise Validators, however, cannot be arbitrary, but are monitored by a rapidly growing network of Edge Nodes and Guardian Nodes.
Guardian Nodes must stake 1,000 theta to participate in the network. For this they receive TFUEL, the utility token in the theta network.
The operation of edge nodes also makes it possible to earn TFuel - even without stake. Edge node operators make their internet bandwidth (especially the upstream) available to help distribute video streams.
TFuel pumps too
TFuel has also been reaching new all-time highs for months. And that although the TFuel supply is not capped, unlike Theta. The inflation rate is 5 percent annually. Admittedly, the expansion of the TFuel supply is necessary as it finances the staking rewards of the Validator and Guardian Nodes.
With the next upgrade on Mainnet 3.0, it will also be possible to stake TFuel. The staking reward here will be 2 to 4 percent - the inflation of TFuel will increase with it. However, with Mainnet 3.0, a mechanism will also be introduced in which TFuel tokens are destroyed. For example, 25 percent of a TFuel transaction to the network - for example, when video platforms pay the streamers and reward the viewers - are destroyed.
