Øystein Stray Spetalen has reportedly "heavily" invested in the MiraiEx crypto exchange and bought large amounts of Bitcoin.
Norwegian crown billionaire Øystein Stray Spetalen has “heavily” invested in both Bitcoin (BTC) and the local crypto exchange MiraiEx - after bashing crypto just last week.
Spetalen recently bought an undisclosed amount of BTC and invested in the Norwegian cryptocurrency exchange MiraiEx. By its own account, the platform didn't need any new capital at the moment, but admitted that additional funding will help it expand faster.
“We didn't really need any money. We just wanted to grow faster, ”said the stock exchange spokesman.
Meanwhile, Spetalen's opinion of Bitcoin was the complete opposite last week. On March 18, he said the cryptocurrency was "hostile" to the environment, claiming that regulators in the EU should outright ban it.
“The only thing I have analyzed is that Bitcoin today uses as much energy as all of Norway's energy consumption. It is extremely harmful to the environment. If you are really serious about Bitcoin, the authorities and the EU should ban it immediately, ”said Spetalen at the DNB Invest conference. And: “It's just nonsense. We get along well with today's payment systems. "
A 180 degree turnaround in terms of Bitcoin
However, he quickly changed his mind after speaking to the MiraiEx founders. Spetals:
“When the facts change, I change. I met the MiraiEx founders the day after the podcast was recorded in early March and realized I was wrong. And when I read that Kjell Inge Røkke had got into Bitcoin, it was very obvious. I can't stand that Røkke makes money and not me. "
Kjell Inge Røkke is another Norwegian investor who controls the local holding company Aker ASA. On March 8, the company announced that it had founded Sea Tea, a new entity that will focus on “investing in projects and businesses across the Bitcoin ecosystem,” starting with a purchase of 1,170 BTC (58, at the time). $ 5 million).
"We are very excited about the industrial opportunities that Bitcoin and blockchain technology are opening up and we really want to contribute," Seetee noted at the time.
Now it looks like other Norwegian investors are starting to pay attention to Bitcoin as well.
