Formula 1 files "F1" as a trademark: plans for crypto, NFTs and Metaverse

 


Formula 1 wants to establish itself in the Web3 ecosystem and recently registered eight trademarks for its globally known abbreviation "F1".


According to trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, the auto racing series filed eight trademark applications on Oct. 5, covering cryptocurrency, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), crypto marketplaces, virtual goods retail stores, cryptocurrency trading and mining, and blockchain financial transactions.


The trademark filings suggest that F1 is looking to enter the Web3 ecosystem . In doing so, the racing series has secured the naming rights to software for use with cryptocurrencies, meta tokens, digital collectibles and NFTs, as well as software for digital currency payment and exchange transactions.


In addition to the software, Formula 1 also wants to offer retail services for virtual goods and set up an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of cryptocurrencies and NFTs.


According to the trademark filings, F1 also wants to work on financial transactions via blockchain technology, offering a digital currency or digital token in the process. The trademark also applies to the field of entertainment services using virtual goods. These include downloadable artworks, cryptocurrencies, digital collectibles, crypto collectibles, and NFTs for use in online, virtual, augmented, and mixed reality environments.


In August, Cointelegraph reported that Formula 1's trademark division filed two new trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the Las Vegas Strip Circuit, where the company's trademark and logo will appear on several goods and services during next year's race should be seen.
