FIFA: NEW NFT PLATFORM IN COLLABORATION WITH ALGORAND



 FIFA+ Collecting: The organization's first foray into the world of NFTs

The platform will be named "FIFA+ Collect" and will take a Top Shot-like approach, albeit with a little twist. Top Shot, of course, has leveraged IP from the NBA, NFL, and UFC to take game moments and mold them as NFTs. FIFA will also appear to be taking big game moments and having them paired with "art and visuals," according to a recent press release. The platform is expected to be launched in September and aims to be "affordable, inclusive and accessible to all football fans," according to the release.


FIFA Chief Business Officer Romy Gai explains:


This exciting announcement makes FIFA collectibles accessible to every football fan, democratizing the opportunity to own a piece of the FIFA World Cup. Just like with sports memorabilia and stickers, new platforms allow fans around the world to connect with their favorite players, moments and more.

Last May, Algorand was able to win FIFA as one of its largest partners to date, just in time for the upcoming World Cup, which will take place this year. The contract also includes the Women's World Cup, which takes place next year and will bring a long term to the FIFA+ Collect platform. Blockchain has clearly taken a narrower and more defined approach to partnership agreements, rather than casting a wide net and hoping something sticks, as it's otherwise been a relatively quiet 2022 for new partnerships -- at least in the world of esports.


Outside of FIFA, sporting events have been extremely quiet in the blockchain ecosystem, with limited exposure to non-traditional sports such as chess and drone racing. Given enough traction, the new FIFA+ Collect platform could easily become a real NFT flagship - but it will still face very stiff competition from established players in the sports and entertainment space.


The company has been named as the exclusive sponsor in the cryptocurrency trading platform category for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, enjoying broader brand exposure inside and outside the World Cup stadiums.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack.
