Cryptocurrencies confiscated by North Korea's Lazarus hacker gang

According to the blockchain analysis company Chainalysis, it has been possible for the first time to confiscate stolen cryptocurrencies from the North Korean hacker group Lazarus.

“More than $30 million worth of cryptocurrencies stolen by North Korea-affiliated hackers have been seized with the help of law enforcement agencies and leading organizations in the cryptocurrency industry,” according to Chainalysis .

The funds come from the March 2022 attack on the Ronin Bridge, which stole over $600 million in cryptocurrencies.

According to Chainalysis, “advanced tracing techniques were used to trace stolen funds to payout points.” They worked with "law enforcement agencies and industry players to quickly freeze funds."

This year alone, North Korean hacker groups are said to have stolen $1 billion in cryptocurrencies from DeFi protocols, according to Chainalysis.
