Cardano (ADA) sets date – Vasil hard fork is coming on September 22nd

 


Cardano ( ADA ) has set September 22 as the date for the long-awaited upgrade called Vasil, as confirmed by founder Charles Hoskinson on YouTube on Friday. The hard fork was supposed to start in June and was then postponed twice .


As explained by Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), the leading development team behind Cardano and the Vasil upgrade, three important milestones have been reached which now give free rein to the hard fork:


“1.) 75% of the mainnet blocks were created by the final candidate for a Vasil node; 2.) 25 of the largest crypto exchanges (which host nearly 80% of ADA's circulation volume) have upgraded; 3.) The Top1-0 DApps according to TVL confirm that they have upgraded to 1.35.3.”

IOHK states that out of the 12 largest crypto exchanges, MEXC and Bitrue are “ready” for the upgrade, while Binance is “almost ready” and Upbit, Coinbase, WhiteBit, BKEX and HitBTC are “already preparing”.



With the switch to Vasil, the developers primarily want to ensure more scalability and lower fees, and the first major upgrade for the Plutus script, which serves as the programming language for smart contracts, is also included. Plutus was only introduced with the previous upgrade called Alonzo, which went live last September.


"If we've all done our jobs properly, September 22nd will be a day like any other," Hoskinson said optimistically. To which he adds :


“When we started, we knew that over time we could achieve what Ethereum has achieved, but to do that requires a clear roadmap. […] We have a lot more planned for the future, especially in 2023.”

The hard fork is named in memory of Vasil Dabov. The Bulgarian was a member of the Cardano community until his passing in 2021. The current price of Cardano cryptocurrency ADA currently stands at $0.454, which is a small gain of just under 1% on the week.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack.
