Circle (USDC) wants to support Ethereum's PoS hard fork after the merge

The stablecoin publisher Circle, which is responsible for the USD Coin ( USDC ), has announced that after the Ethereum blockchain switched from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus, the PoS -Hard fork of the influential smart contract platform should be supported:

“The USDC has now become an important building block for DeFi innovations on Ethereum. As a result, the adoption of layer 2 solutions could be advanced and a large number of new application possibilities created. We recognize our responsibility to the Ethereum ecosystem and the projects within it, developers and users who rely on the USDC, which is why we want to make the right decision.”

USDC is both the largest dollar stablecoin on the Ethereum network and the largest ERC-20 token overall, with a market cap of over $45 billion at press time.

Unlike some other crypto projects, Circle doesn't anticipate difficulties merging from Ethereum:

“We do not anticipate any issues with on-chain use of the USDC or our automatic issuance and redemption will be affected. Circle's test system is connected to Ethereum's Goerli testnet and we will be closely monitoring how the final tests are going over the coming days.”

The major stablecoin issuer is the next big player looking to move from Ethereum to PoS. Oracle service Chainlink had previously announced that the new hard fork should be supported, but PoW is no longer taken into account.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
