Bitcoin Bear Market: What Are the Pros and Cons and How Can You Take Advantage of It?

What is a bear market?

In financial markets, we speak of a bear market when the markets as a whole are in a downtrend and asset values are falling over a period of time and with a certain magnitude. The bear market is characterized by a poor investment climate, falling prices and increased asset sales by investors.

Bear market 2022

A bear market can mean different things in different markets. In classic financial markets, for example, we speak of a bear market when prices fall by more than 10%. In the crypto market, this alone is not enough that most investors refer to this as a bear market.

You can read more about the background of the terms bull market and bear market in this article .

What is a Bitcoin Bear Market?

In the case of cryptocurrencies, we also speak of a bear market in a long-term market situation in which prices fall sharply. Put simply, we can speak of a Bitcoin bear market, since the Bitcoin price has by far the greatest influence on the overall market situation for cryptocurrencies.

A Bitcoin bear market usually occurs on a regular cycle that lasts around 4 years. This cycle is based on the Bitcoin Halving Events . In doing so, Bitcoin sees a bull market ending in a massive rally and then transitioning into a strong and prolonged bear market.

Bitcoin bear market

More often we see sharp price losses in Bitcoin over 10-20% within a short period of time. Here we are usually not talking about a Bitcoin bear market, since the volatility of Bitcoin is usually very high and these fluctuations are sometimes completely normal. We can only speak of a bear market when prices fall sharply over several months.

What are the downsides of the Bitcoin bear market?

A Bitcoin bear market is primarily a negative event for the average investor . A bear market negatively affects your ambition in the following ways:

Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other altcoins fall sharply during a bear market.

In the course of a bear market, rising prices only last for a short time and prices stagnate in the medium term.

The risk of investing in new cryptocurrencies is much higher, as new projects fail more often in a bearish environment.

Other methods of earning money in the crypto market, such as staking, also become much less lucrative in a bear market.

A bear market can be very long and tough. During this time, we hardly see any increases in cryptocurrencies.

What are the advantages of the Bitcoin bear market?

However, the Bitcoin bear market can also bring positive aspects. These aspects are not entirely clear to most investors at first. However, despite lower profits and more difficult market handling, the bear market can offer some advantages:

In the Bitcoin bear market you can buy cryptocurrencies at a low price. Especially after heavy losses, the coins are so cheap that you can accumulate many coins at an extremely low price. These coins should then increase in price in the long term. As a result, you have acquired more coins that will be worth a lot more in a few years.

In the bear market, you can delve deeper into the basics of certain cryptocurrencies, as prices don't make any concrete jumps. You therefore go deeper into the topic and acquire a great deal of knowledge, which you can use in the next bull market.

In a bear market, you have the opportunity to implement a long-term strategy that is independent of short-term bullish swings. The best time to optimize your strategy is in a Bitcoin bear market, where there is not enough upside.

How do you properly take advantage of a bear market?

From the advantages mentioned, you can easily derive a strategy with which you can now invest optimally. What counts here is a constant investment strategy that does not suffer from the fact that prices also fall in the short and medium term. A bear market is an excellent time to establish cost dollar average investing .

With Cost-Dollar-Average you invest at regular intervals, regardless of the movements in the price . This can be particularly worthwhile in a bear market, as you buy at extremely low prices on average. Since you are not selling now, you can accumulate so many coins of a cryptocurrency cheaply. You can now take advantage of this in the next bull market.

Furthermore, you can now deal more intensively with many projects and not only look at the coin that is currently experiencing a hype and with which you could theoretically make short-term profits in the bull market. This is how you find the best long-term projects and use them to form a mix in your portfolio with which you can make the best profits in the long term.

What else can you do in the Bitcoin bear market?

In addition to investing in cryptocurrencies, there are other methods of making money with cryptocurrencies and in the crypto sector. In this article , we will introduce you to some methods you can use to make money in the Bitcoin bear market.

You can use some of these methods during this difficult phase to diversify your income streams while also acquiring new knowledge about cryptocurrencies.

Furthermore, you can acquire knowledge about new projects and new trends in order to recognize a possible hype in a possible new bull market very early on . You can also deepen your knowledge of the blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Cryptoticker offers you some excellent resources for this.

Is it worth investing in Bitcoin now?

The Bitcoin price is very low at the moment due to the bear market. This gives you an excellent opportunity to get in cheap and later sell for a profit when prices rise.

However, you should be aware that the Bitcoin bear market should continue for some time. That is why patience is required and you should invest for the moment with long-term intentions. If you show this patience and foresight, an investment in Bitcoin should be particularly worthwhile for you at the moment.

From offchain to offchain: Statechains meets Lightning

Without a doubt, the most significant off-chain Bitcoin solution is the Lightning network. But in its wake, the statechain has emerged as an intriguing replacement. There is currently a proposal to link the two offchain networks. From an ocean, for example, you can see sunbeams glistening in the water, waves rippling, and possibly a jellyfish drifting toward the light. But you only see a small portion of it. The distance from the sea's surface to its bottom is hundreds of meters. It has dozens of different fish species swimming in it, crabs and starfish crawling on the bottom, shells clinging to rocks, and sea plants climbing up. A completely new world starts where your gaze diverges. You can picture a blockchain like Bitcoin, just like the sea. What you see on the outside is only a small portion of what is actually there; the set of UTXOs (coins) and transaction history that full nodes store are just the beginning of a much larger world. It's the plan, at least. With Bitcoin...

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Although the websites affected by the scam attempt have reacted in the last few hours and deactivated the advertising pop-up, it is still recommended not to connect your MetaMask wallet to ne...

Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack. These numbers are only the lowest estimate, however, as they are based on the lowest price.  At the time of writing, it was still unclear how the hackers gained access to BAYC's official Instagram account. Social media users have pointed out the importance of two-fact...
