Dogecoin (DOGE) The most expensive joke of all time

A token supply of 100 billion, increasing by 5 billion every year, "Comic Sans" as the official font, the face of the famous Shiba Inu "Doge", which was the most famous meme on the internet in its heyday, and a development team that obviously didn't think much of crypto (and still doesn't): It was almost impossible when it was founded not to take the first meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE), created in 2013, as a joke.

But in the meantime, DOGE was even able to fight its way into the top ten most valuable cryptocurrencies, almost surpassed the 1 US dollar mark thanks to a popular TikTok trend and reached a high of 89 billion US dollars in May last year.

Nobody expected this success, let alone planned it, especially not the inventor friends of Dogecoin, Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus.

But it is precisely the point of their joke - the almost inexhaustible token supply and the addition of five billion tokens per year - that explains the interim success of the project.

Because the memecoins serve an important purpose in the crypto space and democratize the (decentralized) financial world.

At least that's what the memecoin fans claim. Thanks to its low transaction costs and high speed, the cryptocurrency is also affectionately referred to as “bitcoin for microtransactions”. And such a project has its right to exist in crypto space.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
