Swiss watch manufacturer TAG Heuer brings NFTs to its smartwatch

 


Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has partnered with the NFT community around the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club and CLONE-X collections to develop a joint update that will enable a specific smartwatch from the company to display NFTs and feature crypto wallets how MetaMask and Ledger Live interact.


As the traditional Swiss company explains, NFTs are transferred to the TAG Heuer Connected Caliber E4 via a paired smartphone. The smartwatch supports both static and animated NFTs and displays them on its dedicated display. The crypto digital art can be resized and presented in three different designs on the watch.


In a corresponding blog entry , TAG Heuer explains the functionality of the Connected Caliber E4 and how it deals with NFTs:


“Most NFTs are image files, but some are animated GIFs. The interface of the TAG Heuer watches supports these formats in crystal clear detail, with looping animations.”

In addition, the smartwatch can also connect directly to the blockchain and verify the NFTs of the watch wearer. To that end, the manufacturer explains: "Verified NFTs are displayed in a hexagon and luminous particles move around the image."


The new NFT feature is set to be made available to all Tag Heuer Caliber E4 owners as a free update that can be obtained from both the Apple App Store and Google Play.


With the integration of NFTs, TAG Heuer is now taking another big step towards Web3 and crypto. In May, the watch manufacturer entered into a cooperation with BitPay in order to be able to accept payments in the form of Bitcoin ( BTC ) and eleven other cryptocurrencies. However, the concept of the "NFT-Watch" is not the sole innovation of the Swiss company, because Bulgari, for example, already relies on watches with a similar function.
