Los Angeles Fast Food NFT Stops Accepting Crypto Payments

 


As the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday, Long Beach-based fast food joint Bored & Hungry, which is styled after popular NFTs, is no longer accepting payments in the form of cryptocurrencies.


When asked, an employee of the store only replied to the Los Angeles Times that such payments "are not accepted today", that's all he knows. The employee was not able to provide more detailed information about the duration or background of the crypto payment stop.


Bored & Hungry opened its doors in the Californian metropolis in April, but even then another employee revealed that the majority of customers were not really interested in the alternative payment option. Rather, guests wouldn't care about "the restaurant's larger ambitions in terms of crypto."


A snack visitor supports this assessment, as he told the newspaper that "people prefer to hold their Ethereum instead of paying with it". Meanwhile, another customer is wondering “whether crypto payments are still feasible in view of the crash”.


Although many guests praised the eye-catching design of the fast-food restaurant, most were unaware that it was based on the popular Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). Accordingly, the food is much more important to the customers than the thematic connection, as visitor Jessica Perez puts it: "We think the food is just as good as at In-N-Out Burger or maybe even better."


Bored & Hungry's crypto payment freeze comes amid a global market slump in the crypto industry. The dramatically falling prices on all fronts could make it no longer lucrative for the snack bar to accept such payments. Nevertheless, there are still alternatives for hungry crypto users, for example in some branches of the Chipotle chain you can still pay with crypto currencies.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack.
