Are you planning your next trip? Check out your hotel in the Metaverse!

Travelers booking a vacation can now view their hotel room first in the Metaverse. Holidaymakers can do all of this from home before deciding on a hotel.

Instead of making travelers desperate for socializing, wild parties and general debauchery, the pandemic has done the exact opposite. The pandemic has turned vacationers into anti-social, hibernating bears who only want to interact with robots.

Travelers are also tired of surprises, such as a real human speaking to them.

A new study by Oracle Hospitality reveals that travelers now have a strong dislike of other people. They don't want to be "thrown off track" by having to interact with other sentient beings.

Travelers - Don't talk to them

According to the report, travelers balk at the thought of having to speak to hotel staff. A whopping 73% of respondents would like hotels to offer technology that helps reduce contact with hotel staff. Respondents also wanted nothing to do with other hotel guests.

“Nearly three quarters of travelers want to use a mobile device to manage the hotel experience. This includes checking in and out, paying, ordering meals and more. That's good news for hoteliers who are turning to technology to overcome staffing shortages. With the help of technology, hospitality and service will continue,” says the report.

Daily room cleaning has gone out of fashion. Nobody wants staff to touch their stuff. Only a quarter of those surveyed want the room to be cleaned every day, the majority don't really care about this aspect.

Travelers also want in-room digital art that suits their taste and can be selected at the time of booking.

When travelers order room service or sign up for a streaming service like Netflix, they want a smooth transition. “45% of respondents indicated that on-demand entertainment is the top concern during their stay. The offer should also seamlessly connect to personal streaming or gaming accounts .”

Travelers want “touch-free zones”

The survey also showed that travelers want to eliminate touch in the industry.

43% would like voice-controlled operation of all amenities in the room, such as lights, locks, curtains or the temperature.

The report also made it clear that holidaymakers want to customize their trip. Travelers do this “by selecting the exact room and floor and only paying for the amenities they want. In addition, travelers want to be able to preselect the objects in the metaverse .”

Travelers want a hotel model where they pay for what they actually use. They are willing to pay more if they can choose the view, the room, and the floor. It is also important for travelers to be able to decide for themselves whether they will arrive early or late and whether they will use the spa area and fitness center or not.

Alex Alt, senior vice president of Oracle Hospitality: “ The pandemic has established the role of technology in the travel industry and the industry will never go back to the old standards. Regardless of whether a hotel company has two or 2,000 hotels. Guests want the highly digital, self-service experience they are used to in other areas of their lives, from banking to ordering food. In order for hoteliers to meet these demands, especially when staffing is limited, they need new systems. These systems enable hoteliers to adapt quickly, onboard new services and serve a diverse group of travelers better and more efficiently.”

Yuck, people

73% of travelers are more willing to stay at a place that offers self-service technology. A large proportion of those surveyed would only like staff on request. 39% of respondents want to order food via smartphone. 49% want contactless payments and some even want to pay in cryptocurrencies .

The hotelier's perspective

Hoteliers were also surveyed in the survey. 96% of these are now keen to invest in contactless technology, with 62% saying they want to offer a “fully contactless experience”. This also included getting rid of the hotel reception.

Nearly half of hotel managers said seamless in-room entertainment is another priority they are keen to implement.

Of course, hotel owners are very pleased with the current development. In a time of staff shortages, when entrepreneurs must fight for every employee, the shift to more technology is good news. Installing technology means hotel owners are no longer dependent on staff. Staff also typically need things like toilet breaks, meals, and vacations when they want little or no contact with other staff.

From offchain to offchain: Statechains meets Lightning

Without a doubt, the most significant off-chain Bitcoin solution is the Lightning network. But in its wake, the statechain has emerged as an intriguing replacement. There is currently a proposal to link the two offchain networks. From an ocean, for example, you can see sunbeams glistening in the water, waves rippling, and possibly a jellyfish drifting toward the light. But you only see a small portion of it. The distance from the sea's surface to its bottom is hundreds of meters. It has dozens of different fish species swimming in it, crabs and starfish crawling on the bottom, shells clinging to rocks, and sea plants climbing up. A completely new world starts where your gaze diverges. You can picture a blockchain like Bitcoin, just like the sea. What you see on the outside is only a small portion of what is actually there; the set of UTXOs (coins) and transaction history that full nodes store are just the beginning of a much larger world. It's the plan, at least. With Bitcoin...

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Although the websites affected by the scam attempt have reacted in the last few hours and deactivated the advertising pop-up, it is still recommended not to connect your MetaMask wallet to ne...

Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack. These numbers are only the lowest estimate, however, as they are based on the lowest price.  At the time of writing, it was still unclear how the hackers gained access to BAYC's official Instagram account. Social media users have pointed out the importance of two-fact...
