On-chain data suggests Bitcoin miners are behind the sell-off

 


On-chain shows that Bitcoin miner outflows have increased recently, suggesting miners were involved in the recent sell-off that pushed the cryptocurrency's price below $42k.


Miner outflows spiked before the crash

As one analyst noted in a post, BTC miners appear to be among the sellers responsible for the price plunge to $42,000. The relevant indicator here is “miner outflow”, which measures the total amount of bitcoin leaving the wallets of all miners.


When the value of this metric spikes, it means that miners are pulling a large number of coins from their wallets and possibly selling them. On the other hand, low values ​​of these outflows indicate a normal or healthy level of selling by miners.

As can be seen in the chart above, bitcoin miner outflows appear to have skyrocketed over the past few weeks, right before the sell-off. This suggests that miners have recently played a role in the sell-off that took the coin's price below $42,000.


Such a trend has already been observed a few times in the past few months, as CryptoQuant has highlighted in the chart.


It is currently unclear whether bitcoin miners have already calmed down or whether there will be further selling in the next few days.


Bitcoin course crashes

After staying well above this mark for around twenty days, the Bitcoin price is now approaching the $40,000 mark again. Due to this strong downtrend in bitcoin price and the broader market, crypto futures saw a large number of liquidations today. In the last 24 hours, liquidations totaled more than $322 million, with $175 million in the last 4 hours alone.
