North Korean hackers launder funds despite sanctions

At the end of March, an attack on the blockchain game Axie Infinity shocked the crypto space. In total, the attackers stole around 616 million US dollars. The North Korean hacker group Lazarus is suspected to be the mastermind .

The US Treasury subsequently sanctioned several Ethereum addresses on April 14. Last Friday, the sanctions list was expanded to include three more wallets.

As the analysis company Elliptic found , the hackers are said to have successfully washed 18 percent (almost 107 million US dollars) of the stolen funds on April 14th.

Alone 80.3 million US dollars flowed through Tornado Cash , a platform that tries to disguise the origin of capital.
