DATA THEFT FROM THE TREZOR HARDWARE WALLET BY MAILCHIMP

Last Saturday, April 2nd, 2022, news broke about the email phishing scam in which users were contacted by what they claim to be a Trezor support team and some were expected to divulge their details. After the first cases were made public, wildfire broke out and Trezor was alerted to address the matter immediately.

The data theft was checked in detail and all users who were affected were contacted directly. During the analysis, it was noticed that e-mail addresses in particular were affected. Since the Trezor hardware wallet does not store the users' private keys itself, it is technically impossible for coins to be lost. Nevertheless, the scammers tried to get some private data from the users via the e-mail addresses.

The intention was to direct users to a malicious website (trezor.us), which differed from the official one only in detail ( trezor.io ). Trezor immediately warned users about this phishing website across all platforms.

MailChimp as trigger for Trezor hardware wallet data theft

The origin of the data breach went back to the email service provider MailChimp. There, an opt-in newsletter is said to have been responsible for the data leak.

Trezor explained:

MailChimp confirms that their service was compromised by an insider targeting crypto companies. We managed to take the phishing domain offline. We're trying to determine how many email addresses are affected. Until the situation is clarified, we will not carry out any communication via newsletter. Until further notice, do not open emails that appear to be from Trezor. Please ensure you use anonymous email addresses for bitcoin-related activities.

Security guaranteed - data protection questionable

With this action, it is noticeable that the Trezor hardware wallet or the ledger are safe from hacks. Because only you have access to your private key and this theft of cryptocurrencies is only possible if you pass it on to third parties. Therefore, at Krypto Guru we continue to recommend hardware wallets so that you also have permanent access to your cryptocurrencies.

Nevertheless, there is a big problem related to hardware wallets. Because these are ordered directly from a company, which reveals some data. In addition to an e-mail address, your private address is also stored in a specific database. The danger of data theft is obvious here and also the reason why the phishing attack came about.

The 5 largest platforms for non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles

Since the beginning of 2021, non-fungible tokens (NFT) have had no holding back and the sector is setting new records almost every day.  More and more artists, stars and brands are realizing the potential - NFT are well on their way to catapulting the crypto space into the mainstream.  But which collectibles are currently the most popular? What are NFT? NFT are unique tokens that cannot be exchanged one-for-one for an equivalent token.  Any asset that is tokenizable can be an NFT.  This includes, for example, (digital) works of art, trading cards, game items and crypto domains.  Theoretically, however, real estate or securities can also be mapped as NFT. NFTs can be used to transparently map ownership structures on a public blockchain.  This allows them to store value just like real objects, even if additional copies are easy to make.  For example, the original picture of the Mona Lisa is significantly more valuable than a photo, as everyone kno...

CARDALONIA: THE CARDANO METAVERSE OPENS THE GATES!

Have you ever been to Cardalonia? With these words, the Cardano Metaverse called Cardalonia starts the gates. In this 3D world, developers and users can interact with each other. First of all, users have to create an individual character with which they can move online. After that you can enter one of the worlds built by developers with this character. You can also purchase your own land in the Cardano Metaverse via the marketplaces in Cardalonia . This is secured by Cardano's blockchain technology and therefore offers a relatively secure transfer of ownership. Since these are only digital plots of land, it is not yet entirely clear when the plots of land are purchased whether they can also be sold again in the future. A possible profit cannot be estimated at the moment. In Cardalonia, the cryptocurrency Lonia is used. The maximum amount of tokens in circulation is 100,000,000. The team consists of Alice Sand (Co-Founder), Vasil Air (CTO) and Dustan Water (Fullstack Developer). T...
