Ukraine Accepts DOT: Founder Gavin Wood Donates $5.8M



 The crypto community’s request that Ukraine should accept other cryptocurrencies as well has been answered. The official Ukrainian Twitter account announced that donations in Polkadot ( DOT ) are now accepted. Other cryptocurrencies will be added soon.



Polkadot co-founder Gavin Wood previously said he would personally donate $5 million if Ukrainian wallets also support DOT. He kept his promise and donated around 300,000 DOT to the Ukrainian wallets , which is about $5.7 million.



In total, Ukrainian charities have received over $37 million in crypto donations, according to Cointelegraph estimates . Wood's donation accounts for over 10 percent of total crypto donations.


In fact, Wood's donation is one of the largest single cryptocurrency donations ever. Sam Bankman-Fried's platform FTX donated $25 to every Ukrainian on its exchange. Deepak Thapliyal, CEO of Chain.com donated 100 Ether ( ETH ) or over $280,000.


Along with Wood, the Polkadot ecosystem has already deposited over $210,000 into the official Ukraine DOT wallet as of this morning, according to Polkadot blockchain data .


For cryptocurrencies that are not accepted by Ukraine , Coingate, a fintech company from Lithuania, offers a solution. As a cryptocurrency payment gateway, Coingate allows owners of other cryptocurrencies to donate to Ukraine.

Coingate manages crypto payments for over 70 cryptocurrencies and transfers the amounts in euros to Ukrainian bank accounts. Coingate told Cointelegraph, "In the last five days, we've raised EUR 7,000 from various crypto communities."



The crypto community has been quick to support Ukraine with donations and words of encouragement . On Twitter, observers believe Ukraine's innovative crypto activities are an attempt to "make history."
