A company called Elliptic claims they found a wallet that has millions of dollars in "crypto assets."
The British company's founder, Tom Robinson, gave an interview to Bloomberg . Elliptic specializes in forensics and blockchain security, working with authorities to track down crypto wallets owned by sanctioned individuals.
The wallet is believed to be linked to sanctioned Russian officials and oligarchs.
Neither the exact value of the cryptocurrencies nor the assets contained were mentioned in the interview.
Elliptic has already identified more than 400 crypto services that allow anonymous users to trade digital assets in rubles. Also, more than 15 million crypto addresses have been linked to Russia-related criminal activity.
Still, Robinson doesn't believe that Russians are turning to cryptocurrencies to a large extent to circumvent sanctions . He also praised the fact that most major exchanges, such as Coinbase or Binance, work with regulators .
