Overview Metaverses: What visions of virtual reality are there?

The Metaverse is considered the most interesting vision on the blockchain. In addition to small projects, large corporations such as Nvidia and above all the former Facebook group are already involved in the Metaverse. Formerly, since the social media company changed its name to "Meta" last fall. The acronym stands for Metaverse. A clear sign that describes Zuckerberg's vision of the future of Facebook. The company takes the development of the Metaverse very seriously. Last quarter, ten billion dollars flowed into the development of the Meta-Metaverse.

However, Meta is not the only player in the Metaverse market. The semiconductor manufacturer Nvidia is also involved. Not to forget the first metaverses like Decentralland or the Sandbox.

What is the metaverse?

Virtual worlds have been around for decades. Whether "Sims", "Grand Theft Auto" or "The Witcher", virtual worlds have been known, especially in the gaming industry, for years. Zuckerberg's vision of a metaverse follows on from this in a few points, but develops the gaming worlds many times over. The Metaverse should also find more use in everyday life away from gaming.

The goal should be to move people away from the console and bring them into the metaverse themselves using virtual reality glasses. In the Metaverse everything that the physical world has to offer is supposed to be possible. In addition to meeting friends, the “metaversians” should also be able to do sports, work and go shopping. Land, valuables and buildings can then also be acquired.

The Meta-Metaverse

The Facebook group renamed itself Meta, invested many billions of dollars and aligned the entire corporate strategy towards Metaverse. Zuckerberg shows he takes the development seriously. But what can the metaverse of meta do? So far it is unclear what Zuckerberg's meta should be able to do. In the well-known keynote , in which the CEO announced the project, one sees a future that could take place almost entirely in the Metaverse.

Zuckerberg shared a video of himself meeting friends in the Metaverse, working, and creating projects. You can also see a virtual "home", clothing for the avatar and a lot of familiar things.

what is most impressive is the vision of digital work. It seems like Zuckerberg specifically values virtual interaction. Virtual collaboration and virtual meetings with friends.

Meta doesn't have anything tangible yet. Aside from an announcement video and a massive budget for development, Meta's Metaverse has been quiet. The release date remains unclear. But Zuckerberg's metaverse is coming- especially since the future of his company depends on it.

Decentraland

Decentraland is one of the most famous decentralized metaverses. Decentraland consists of a virtual 3D world that has existed since 2015. Decentraland raised $26 million in 2017 via an ICO (Initial Coin Offering). The Metaverse, which can be traded via the “Mana” coin, now has a market capitalization of a good seven billion.

On Decentraland, users can buy, build on or otherwise monetize virtual properties. Digital ones can already be used on Decentraland

Getting into the virtual world is completely free. In fact, Decentraland is primarily reminiscent of a video game. As with Meta, here you can create your own avatar and buy lots. The virtual land is limited to 90,601 parcels of 256 square meters each.

In Decentraland you can already pursue activities such as going to the casino or playing other games on the blockchain.

The Sandbox

At first glance, The Sandbox is very similar to Decentraland. However, the graphics presented in blocks are very reminiscent of the game Minecraft. As in Decentraland, users can purchase and monetize properties on The Sandbox. there are even virtual animals in the world. In The Sandbox, users can construct virtual buildings etc. and own them as NFTs.

By participating in the sandbox ecosystem, you can be rewarded with cryptocurrencies. The Sandbox is therefore based on a play-to-earn concept.

The Sandbox is also listed on the crypto exchanges and can be traded under the abbreviation "SAND". "SAND" mainly plays a role in the virtual world, since the token is used for any "in-game" transaction.

The Sanbox users can even help shape the future of the Metaverse through a democratic system by using their vote to vote on rule changes or proposals.

Omniverse by Nvidia

As the most valuable chip company in the world, Nvidia has recognized the signs of the times and is fully committed to the Metaverse. The group, which presented its in-house metaverse as "Omniverse", is now also focusing on the virtual future in addition to a high-growth core business. Analysts expect Nvidia's Omniverse to generate $10 billion in revenue by 2027.

The Omniverse is fundamentally different from previous projects. While Meta relies on a kind of social media and social work in the Metaverse and Decentraland and The Sandbox are more reminiscent of video games, Omniverse relies on companies as customers and digital workflow. Nvidia's omniverse could thus become a kind of digital workplace form as a metaverse.

It should be possible to display digital factories, for example. Collaborating teams should be able to plan, edit and design projects together virtually.

An impressive video from Nvidia shows how the company imagines working in the Omniverse. One of the partners: the German automobile manufacturer BMW.

Nvidia divides the Omniverse into two user types. individuals and enterprises. The two types differ in the variety of applications. While the free "Individual" is particularly useful for creative people and developers, "Enterprise" allows working in teams. Enterprise applications can cost up to $9,000 per year for limited team use. However, there are different subscription models.

Which metaverse will prevail?

The different metaverses are made for different things. At the moment it doesn't seem like a central metaverse for everything will prevail. Decentraland and the Sandbox currently look more like a video game and can be classified in the entertainment & games segment. Meta, on the other hand, relies on a new type of social media. Above all, virtual meetings with friends should be made possible, but working together should also be possible. Nvidia takes a different approach with its Omniverse. The semiconductor producer relies entirely on the combination of real and virtual work. In addition, the Omniverse is only partially free and is primarily aimed at corporate customers.

The 5 largest platforms for non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles

Since the beginning of 2021, non-fungible tokens (NFT) have had no holding back and the sector is setting new records almost every day.  More and more artists, stars and brands are realizing the potential - NFT are well on their way to catapulting the crypto space into the mainstream.  But which collectibles are currently the most popular? What are NFT? NFT are unique tokens that cannot be exchanged one-for-one for an equivalent token.  Any asset that is tokenizable can be an NFT.  This includes, for example, (digital) works of art, trading cards, game items and crypto domains.  Theoretically, however, real estate or securities can also be mapped as NFT. NFTs can be used to transparently map ownership structures on a public blockchain.  This allows them to store value just like real objects, even if additional copies are easy to make.  For example, the original picture of the Mona Lisa is significantly more valuable than a photo, as everyone kno...

CARDALONIA: THE CARDANO METAVERSE OPENS THE GATES!

Have you ever been to Cardalonia? With these words, the Cardano Metaverse called Cardalonia starts the gates. In this 3D world, developers and users can interact with each other. First of all, users have to create an individual character with which they can move online. After that you can enter one of the worlds built by developers with this character. You can also purchase your own land in the Cardano Metaverse via the marketplaces in Cardalonia . This is secured by Cardano's blockchain technology and therefore offers a relatively secure transfer of ownership. Since these are only digital plots of land, it is not yet entirely clear when the plots of land are purchased whether they can also be sold again in the future. A possible profit cannot be estimated at the moment. In Cardalonia, the cryptocurrency Lonia is used. The maximum amount of tokens in circulation is 100,000,000. The team consists of Alice Sand (Co-Founder), Vasil Air (CTO) and Dustan Water (Fullstack Developer). T...
