This Tesla owner uses his car to mine Bitcoin and other cryptos

A man has managed to turn his Tesla Model 3 car into a money maker by mining cryptocurrencies.

While cryptocurrency mining is usually associated with noisy and bulky mining facilities, a San Francisco man has found a way to profitably mine Bitcoin and Ethereum with his sleek Tesla Model 3.

Siraj Raval has tried pretty much every possibility to mine cryptocurrencies with his 2018 Tesla Model 3. He ran free Bitcoin mining software on his Apple Mac mini M1 and powered the computer via an inverter on the 12-volt socket in the center console of his car.

In the long term, he plans to turn his limousine into a robotaxi to be able to mine cryptocurrencies while the car is parked. Raval plans to use part of its earnings to invest in a whole range of cryptocurrencies.

With mining, new bitcoins are generated in an energy-intensive way and transactions are validated on the blockchain. The main cost of mining bitcoin, according to Alejandro de la Torre, a bitcoin miner, is the cost of electricity. He said:

"IF IT'S CHEAPER TO DO THIS WITH AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE, SO BE IT."

Another Tesla owner, Chris Allessi from Wisconsin, started fiddling with his Tesla in 2018. He hooked up a Bitcoin Antminer mining facility to the car battery and used an inverter like Raval to convert the battery's direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). The Antminer system is operated with alternating current. Allessi also used Tesla's web browser to mine Monero.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
