What is LUNA?

Terra is a blockchain protocol that uses stablecoins linked to fiat to operate price-stable global payment systems. Terra combines the price stability and wide acceptance of fiat currencies with the censorship resistance of Bitcoin (BTC) and offers fast and affordable billing.

Development on Terra began in January 2018 and its mainnet was officially launched in April 2019. From September 2021, it will offer stablecoins pegged to the USD, South Korean won, Mongolian tugrik and the International Monetary Fund's special drawing rights basket.

Terra's native token LUNA is used to stabilize the price of the protocol's stablecoins. LUNA holders can also submit governance proposals and vote on what gives them the functionality of a governance token.
