NFT platform hacked lost millions of dollars

 


The sports NFT platform Lympo was the victim of a hacking attack on several wallets, which resulted in the loss of LMT with a total value of over 18 million US dollars. The investigations into the course of events are still ongoing.


The NFT minting platform and Animoca Brands subsidiary Lympo has apparently been the victim of a hacking attack. In the process, the platform lost 165.2 million LMT tokens valued at 18.7 million US dollars, according to Lympo. In a brief Medium update , the team reports that the attack took place last Monday, January 10, 2022. The hackers managed to gain access to Lympo's operational hot wallet . 


The attack is still being investigated, but we assure all LMT token holders that we are working hard to resume normal operations as soon as possible. We are preparing a comprehensive plan on how to address the effects of this attack and will share it with our community as soon as it becomes available

Lympo asks customers not to buy LMT

The article also lists ten different project wallets that were compromised in the attack. It is suspected that most of the stolen tokens ended up at a single address. Afterwards, Uniswap and SushiSwap were exchanged for Ether (ETH), whereupon there was a further distribution.


In response to this attack, Lympo has stated that it has taken protective measures. The company wants to ensure that no further LMT can be stolen by the hackers. To do this, the Animoca subsidiary is temporarily removing LMT from various liquidity pools in order to minimize the disruption of token prices after the hack. Customers are also advised that the majority of LMT's reserves are in cold wallet storage. Therefore, these have remained safe and intact throughout the incident.



Still: Early Tuesday morning, Lympo asked customers not to buy or sell LMT tokens before the investigation is complete .

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
