NBA star LeBron James and Cryptocom launch crypto education program

According to a Friday press release , basketball superstar Lebron James is teaming up with major crypto exchange Crypto.com to fund crypto, blockchain and Web3 education for kids and adults. As local newspaper Akron Beacon Journal reports , the primary goal of the partnership is to educate 1,600 children in Akron, Ohio, James' hometown, about crypto and blockchain. In this way, the children should learn to understand the technology behind cryptocurrencies and be shown possible career opportunities for their future.

“Blockchain technology is revolutionizing our economy, our sports, our entertainment industry, our art world and the way we communicate. I want to make sure the people of my hometown aren't left behind in that regard." Pupils, students and specialists in the region should be able to attend virtual and personal lectures with crypto experts from Crypto.com. Kris Marszalek, the CEO of the crypto exchange, comments on the initiative as follows:

"We are very proud to partner with the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) to provide educational opportunities for students and professionals, creating the conditions for a brighter future for the next generation."

Crypto.com is currently the fifth largest crypto exchange on the market with a daily volume of USD 3 billion and 10 million users . However, not all customers of the platform are enthusiastic about this development. Critical voices believe that it is better to plan money for improving user-friendliness than for carrying out marketing measures and advertising cooperation.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
