Keanu Reeves laughs at the NFT hype



NFTs are currently one of the hottest irons in the digital crypto world. Not for everyone, however. Hollywood star Keanu Reeves can only laugh about it.


Keanu Reeves is currently on everyone's lips again. The Hollywood star can currently be seen in the cinema with “The Matrix Resurrections”, a sequel to Matrix Revolutions from 2003. The second leading role is played, as was the wonderful Carrie-Anne Moss.



In an interview with the technology portal “ The Verge ”, the two actors also came up with the subject of NFTs. NFT stands for "Non Fungible Token" and describes online goods that cannot be replaced or destroyed. They are especially popular in the digital art world. The technology is currently being used to sell tweets, GIFs and digital works of art - sometimes for gigantic sums of money

The makers of "The Matrix Resurrections" jumped on this trend and created NFTs for the movie. These were so popular that they temporarily crashed the website they were being sold on.



Reeves' reaction to the subject, however, came a little ... unexpected: In an interview with "The Verge" he burst out laughing when the name NFT was mentioned. In his opinion, they are a hoax because they are "easy to reproduce", he emphasized - for example, by saving an NFT with a simple right-click.


NFTs are "climate killers"

For Reeves, this is an artificial scarcity that goes against the ethos of the internet. In addition, NFTs are real “climate killers”, writes the “Monopol” magazine. Research by the artist Memo Akten, for example, came to the conclusion that the footprint of a single NFT corresponds to the electricity consumption of an EU citizen over a period of more than a month. According to Forbes Magazine, “NFTs and most cryptocurrencies are pouring gasoline on our burning planet”.



Reeves' clear stance is all the more refreshing as many celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Eminem or Reese Witherspoon are very sympathetic to NFTs. Reeves, on the other hand, does not seem to have made it into the matrix, at least in this area.

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack.
