France, Switzerland and BIS are successfully testing digital euros and Swiss francs

Although the joint Jura project was a complete success, this does not necessarily mean the issuing of a corresponding central bank digital currency.

The Banque de France (BdF), the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and the Innovation Center of the Bank for International Settlements (BISIH) have successfully completed a pilot project called Project Jura , in which a so-called “wholesale” central bank digital currency (CBDC) is used for processing used for international payments.

The pilot project consisted of three experimental areas. First, a decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) network based on Corda, which was used to validate transactions and guaranteed compliance with all legal, regulatory and economic requirements of the participating nations. Second, the tokenization of euros, Swiss francs and short-term Euronotes as wCBDCs. Third, the establishment of an infrastructure for the real-time processing of international payments and the digitization of bonds.

Although the Jura project was successfully completed, this does not necessarily mean that France, Switzerland or the European Union (EU) will subsequently introduce wCBDCs . After all, the project report comes to the conclusion that “wCBDCs could be integrated into new types of payment processing processes that would permanently change the structures and functioning of stock markets, money markets and foreign currency markets”. And further:

"The wider use of central bank money through easier access or increased use in international payment processing could accelerate these changes."

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726.
