Bitwise launches NFT index funds for accredited investors


 

Asset management Bitwise Asset Management has a new index funds placed at the start to get easier access to non-Fungible tokens (NFT), digital art and other media assets over the selected investors.


As can be seen from the related announcement, the so-called "Bitwise Blue-Chip NFT Index Fund" enables accredited investors to invest indirectly in large non-fungible tokens and digital art assets.


Demand should be there, because the relatively young NFT market really exploded in 2021. For example, private investors around the world have invested several million US dollars in the so-called CryptoPunks, which in turn has brought institutional and accredited investors to the scene. In the third quarter of 2021 , the market was able to crack a trading volume of 10 billion US dollars for the first time.


As the asset management company explains, the Bitwise Blue-Chip NFT Index Fund is only open to qualified investors, with a minimum investment of 25,000 US dollars. Bitwise investment boss Matt Hougan thinks this is more than justified in view of the opportunities the new market offers.


“In the long-established art market, there are very few real innovations. A completely new artistic medium is all the more rare, ”says Hougan. Bitwise CIO even sees NFTs as the natural medium for owning digital art and digital collectibles, which has "enormous potential for the way in which value is added in an increasingly digital world".

Phishing attack on popular crypto sites tries to empty wallets

  Several major crypto sites such as Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse, and others report malicious pop-ups scammers use to try to trick users into connecting their MetaMask wallets. The phishing attack came from a domain displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) logo. "We are investigating the root cause of this attack to fix the threat as soon as possible," CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong tweeted. The phishing attack appears to have been triggered by a malicious ad script from Coinzilla, a crypto ad network, according to CoinGecko. Etherscan also advises its users not to confirm any transactions that may appear on the website. The attackers attempted to use the hype around the “bored monkeys” non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gain access to the cryptocurrencies of unsuspecting website visitors. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs stolen through phishing on Instagram

  Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) developers announced on Monday that hackers have hijacked the official Instagram page of the popular NFT collection and posted links to a fake airdrop. Crypto enthusiasts who connected their MetaMask wallet to the rogue website subsequently had their Ape NFTs stolen. Apparently, the attack was planned to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the BAYC collection. This increased the "perceived credibility" of the phishing link. About 100 NFTs are said to have been stolen in the phishing attack . According to CoinGecko data , the minimum price for a BAYC NFT is 139 Ether ( ETH ) or $400,726. So if reports are correct, over $40 million worth of NFTs were stolen in the attack.
